GROUP 43 - Music Video 2008/9: September 2008

Genre and conventions

The genre of our video is going to be fairytale/fantasy. The existing genre of the artist is fantasy. we can see this through the video of New Soul that we previously posted, where the paintings came to life. We are carry on the theme and making the video very fairytale oriented.

The conventions; happy ending. romance. bright colours. mystical creatures. unexpected twists- far fetched story.

In order for our music video to fit with the song we also need to incorporate fairytale locations and props, such as a cute little cottage, and teddy bears!

Performance / Lip syncing

Our performance/Lip syncing will be done by Laura mostly, because as Chris P Chris O and Duncan will be ether camera man or in a bear costume although we will try to feature ourselves in the video and maybe will be singing as well. this will mean that Laura will need to learn the words for the song and practice lip syncing.

This is an image from Daft Punk's Da Funk and it follows a man in a dog mask and it is like our idea but it focus's on a different animal

The Science of sleep

This is still from the film science of sleep and it shows an idea that we had to use bears playing instruments this is a fantasy type of film and shows what it might look like.

Tactical camera substitute!

Seeing as we have the bear costumes for 4 days we have decided we shall be filming for all 4 of those days.
We can only use the college cameras for a maximum of 2 days, for this reason we will be using Chris O's camera and tripod as there is no limit as to the amount of time we can use them for.
Chris's camera also produces better quality videos and colours as well as a longer battery life.
We also don't have to worry about breaking the news of damaging college equipment to nick as he would be sad :( and that is not very good.

Bear Costumes

Today, I went to Wardrobe on Sedgwick Street. Firstly, it's damn hard to find.

But more importantly, I have booked our bear costumes. I went along to have a look at them. I only had time to try on one of the suits on. I took some pictures.

This is the daddy bear costume. This is £30 to rent. There is also a "baby bear" costume. This is the same height, but the face is more cartoony. So unless they have another daddy bear head, they will be odd. The baby bear is £22 to rent.

Tomorrow I am going back to book them. I shall be doing them for the 2th of October, but this may be changed depending on our timetables.

If they are booked on a Thursday, then they need to go back for the next Monday. All the filming will have to be done very quickly.

DJ Format featuring Jurassic 5: We Know Something

We are looking at this video because they also use animal costumes. In the video, the animals are used to replace the rappers, who weren't present for the video. So in this video, it is all random footage which is fitted to the music.

Bear Costume Problem

We have been looking all over Cambridge for a while now but we have had very little luck. Until now, we have recently called up wardrobe in Cambridge and they have two bear costumes in stock so Duncan is going to find out more information and take a picture for us. if this goes to plan and we can book the costumes then we will have two bear suits between the four of us for £17.50 each which is reasonable.

Feedback from class

Lauren loved it...
People seemed interested in our idea.

Use cornflakes/weatabix instead of porridge?

Set it in the county but use technology to make it up to date

What We Will Be doing In The Video!!!!!!

Rough idea....

Laura listening to ipod singing the song. In various locations, this is a boring idea... so we are going to include bears in the shots, sometimes subtle and sometimes obvious.
we are also subtly change Laura's hat.

Extra little ideas

Fairy tail land!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Eats porridge for breakfast too hot, goes out etc etc, playing on Goldilocks and the three bears.
Bed shop??
Mistakes?? chair breaks? clumsy allways getting things wrong? does not get the happy ending.

Our original plans

When we first heard the song "New Soul", Laura immediately came up with he thought of punting along the Cam, with a mix of interesting and wild hats.
However, this was dropped after we watched the video released by the artist, which seems fairly similar to our thoughts.

Our second collective thoughts were to go ice skating. It would be easier and more appropriate for this time of the year. We then added to this by having a girl (at the moment Laura) listening to the song, and weird and wild happenings going on around her, though she acts oblivious to her. So we expanded on this, by possibly having people in bar costumes being around her sub-consciously.

We would like to keep with the bear thing, but we might move from skating to being in more locations. This could be around Cambridge, but maybe also around London, and on the trains in between. However, some of the problems that may arise with this plan is our money flow. Ticket to London are £25 each. Then there is hiring the costumes, which we don't yet know how much.

We are trying to come up with a few more ideas.

We hope to be able to cut out parts of places, and clone bears through post-filming editing.

LYRICS

I'm a new soul
I came to this strange world
Hoping I could learn a bit bout how to give and take.
But since I came here,
Felt the joy and the fear
Finding myself making every possible mistake

la-la-la-la-la-la-la-la...

I'm a young soul
In this very strange world
Hoping I could learn a bit bout what is true and fake
But why all this hate?
Try to communicate
Finding trust and love is not always easy to make

la-la-la-la-la-la-la-la...

This is a happy end
'Cause you don't understand
Everything you have done
Why's everything so wrong?
This is a happy end
Come and give me your hand
I'll take you far away

I'm a new soul
I came to this strange world
Hoping I could learn a bit bout how to give and take.
But since I came here,
Felt the joy and the fear
Finding myself making every possible mistake

I'm a new soul... (la, la, la, la,...)
In this very strange world...
Every possible mistake
Possible mistake
Every possible mistake
Mistakes, mistakes, mistakes...
Take take take take take... take a mistake
Take, take a mistake
Take, take a mistake
(oh oh oh oh...)
[fade out]
(oh oh oh oh...)
